Squeeze the rubber isolator element by hand. A functioning isolator compresses under moderate hand pressure. An isolator that does not compress has hardened and lost its vibration isolation function - replace it even if it has not cracked visibly.


Can a broken school bus exhaust hanger bracket be welded instead of replaced?


Welding a cracked hanger bracket is not a recommended repair. A crack at the bracket weld indicates the material has reached its fatigue limit. A weld on fatigued metal typically cracks again near the heat-affected zone. Replace the bracket.
